Team Profile – Alex Beros

Introducing Alex Beros –  Web Developer

Alex was born and bred in a warm tropical climate (we assume this from the only known picture of him). At the age of 18 he decided to move to Melbourne.

Why? Why? Why?

It’s obvious. Melbourne being the technology centre of Australia and Alex having honed his chops (taught himself to cut code) from an early age, needed to be there!

His first paying gig ran eight months and then he joined the CORUS team. That was three years and 200K lines of code ago. Time flies!

Alex’s has many hobbies.

He achieves them all by cutting code.

Alex’s skills cover a broad spectrum. From stripping down servers, coding in five languages through to doing lovely designs in Photoshop. We keep him away from the important stuff though. He has had three iPhones, two laptops and basically anything that’s not nailed down, he will break…

Which makes him a really good coder.

Introducing Sachit Malhotra – Web Developer

That’s me – on the right. I code CORUS.

My journey at CORUS started almost two years ago. CORUS is the reason I fell in love with coding (my boss made me write this – just kidding).

Growing up, I always had a passion for hi-tech gadgets – especially mobile phones. I changed mine every six months until I met the iPhone. And yes I have become an Apple fanboy.

Being a computer programmer was never my first choice. I always wanted to become a Pilot but that never happened so I became a computer programmer. As it stands, I think it was a better choice. I started my education in India but soon I realized that I wanted to go abroad to study. I came to Australia to pursue my dream and never looked back.

I am based in Melbourne and love the city. It’s among the world’s top 5 livable cities. The weather is very unpredictable. I love the work culture. People are very relaxed and that is one of the secrets behind the success of Melbourne.

My favorite line “Life is a roller coaster, you just gotta ride it”.

Introducing Trevor Flett

Trevor is our creative mentor/guru.

He is the custodian of our branding direction and communications styling. Trevor brings to CORUS insights and experience gained from a stellar forty year career. As one of Australia’s pre-eminent communications creatives, Trevor’s role with CORUS is to unveil the emotional intangibles of the product.

“What can be perceived can be realised. What can be conceived can be created. Success is often a function of how you see yourself”.

Trevor Flett

Trevor Flett was born in 1950 and raised in West Footscray in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

As a former Creative Director of FutureBrand FHA his company designed the emblem, bid books, look and feel imagery for the “best ever” Games for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Other significant design and images include Telstra, Orica, BHP Billiton, Freehills, Myer, Cricket Australia, Crown and AFL brands to name a few.

Excerpt from ABC Radio National interview with Trevor – 25 August 2001

Narelle Hooper: Now I should say that not only did you design the blob but you’re also responsible for the Telstra T, the Crown Casino crown and the Olympic logos. Now your logos don’t seem to do very much, what are people paying for?

Trevor Flett: Well, in fact, they do an enormous amount behind the scenes. A brand these days is a very powerful instrument as an agent of change. Quite often it can provide a catalyst between a whole lot of communication requirements and the brand or the logo that gets often talked about is really just the top of the iceberg. If it’s properly orchestrated it will link in with a whole lot of integrated efforts and allow a company to speak with one voice and one face.

Introducing Sean Kelly – CEO/Founder

Sean is our CEO and founder. Here’s a little history. Here’s his Twitter stream.

After leaving school Sean enrolled in Medicine at the University of Melbourne. However his desire was to indulge his major passion…Music. So he got a job in a nightclub called Inflation. His first position was a kitchen hand. By the end of that shift he got a promotion to the bar, one step closer to the Music. Hassling everybody in the hierarchy of the nightclub to give him a position as a DJ he realised;

  • 1. get into the club early,
  • 2. set up the bar swiftly,
  • 3. hand the right drinks to the right people,
  • 4. win over the DJ, who succumbed to the pressure with the instructions,

“All right! As long as you steer clear of the stuff we play, knock yourself out”.

End result, Sean played early disco [Sylvester, The Jacksons] whilst the “real” DJs played their popular disco hits of the moment. The next eight years went by swiftly. Playing music at night and attending lectures during the day.

Two years into Medicine, Sean switched to the Economics faculty. The next five years were spent studying Arts and Economics with a major emphasis in Philosophy and like all good technology geeks he left before he finished his degree…

One day during this period, May 11th 1985, Sean walked into a computer shop. On display was a thing called the Apple Macintosh. On it’s screen was a simple stick figure animation. The future flashed before his eyes. This computer thing was going to change the way we do everything. The journey of an Apple Mac fanatic started that day.

The 80′s came to a close as did the passion for the Music. It segued however, straight into technology. Through the 90′s Sean worked helping very large businesses embrace and implement technology by applying it to their business processes.

Around 1993 the next “moment” washed over him. This thing called the Internet…Since then Sean has created many disruptive technology solutions for many businesses. Lastly but not least, he created the collaboration platform known as CORUS.

Our World

We live in Melbourne.

One of the many reasons we choose to be based here is that we truly get to experience 4 seasons in 1 day.

We refer to our city as an all encompassing multi-cultural hub of creative exchange.

Our offices overlook the culinary buzz of the famous Queen Victoria Market, bustling with gourmands 5 days a week.

A brief saunter in any direction loads our brains with superb contemporary architecture, the Italian community landscape of Carlton, 2 university campuses, RMIT and Melbourne University. Melbourne is seen as the departure point for broadening minds, horizons and experiences.

We are in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Central Business District.
